So, yes most of my
Fine art work is heavily influenced by urban
decay, the
city of Detroit and all of it's wonderful history. People often ask,
"Aren't you afraid to go into these places?" The plain truth
is Detroit can be dangerous and you would have to be crazy to ignore
that fact and rush into these situations blindly and without
caution.
However, with proper gear, nerves of steel, and an endorphin
altering passion to see and photograph things and places that most
people are never able to see, all things become possible in Detroit.
Be it at a cost of lung cancer from asbestos exposure, falling
through a floor/ roof or being attacked by a psychopathic derelict
wielding a tire iron (yes it happened), Urban Exploration
photography (Urbex photography for short) gives us just a glimpse of
the colorful past and wonderful history of cities like Detroit and
the lifestyles they once supported.
While urban decay is a sad fact of life in Detroit, the artist in
me likes to see the beauty in it all. What beauty? How about the
beauty of all the joy people had from listening to this piano play
long before she was abandoned. More than 15 years has past since she
was last played and still she brings us joy, only now as a beautiful
romantic daydream instead of a soothing melody. Talk about a Detroit
revival!
